Istanbul, May 4 (DHA) - Alevi associations and foundations protested the county gorvernor of Maltepe district in Istanbul, for his attempt to block free water and electricity for the Cemevi (Alevi places of worship), which is available for all mosques, on Monday.
"Maltepe Municipality gives water and electricity power to our Cemevi for free for six months now, due to the European Human Rights Court decision, that asked Turkey to recognise the cemevis as religious buildings" Remzi Akbulut, head of Alevi Foundations Federation, told reporters inforont of the county gorner's office, where members of the Alevi organisations.
The group chanted slogans that asking the County Governor Necip Çakmak to resign.
The European court of Human Rights has ruled that Turkey's failure to exempt cemevis from paying their electricity bills violates the article on discrimination in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), in December.
